100% natural NatureWax C-3 soy wax from the American company Cargill, produced in the USA.

Soy wax is an extremely sought-after wax that appeals to a wide variety of candle makers and consumers. C-3 soy wax offers excellent glass adhesion and retains colour beautifully.

NatureWax C-3 is a soy wax in flake form with soy-derived additives that reduce frosting and increase the allowable fragrance load. Excellent for candle makers.

NatureWax C-3 is a natural soy-based wax. It finishes creamy and opaque and is favoured for its glass adhesion that minimises wet spots, little to no frosting, and the ability to pour without additives. An excellent wax for containers or wax melts that throws fragrance well, works with flake, powder and liquid pigments, and holds colour beautifully. C-3 soy wax is known and loved for being easy to pour and producing consistent results. C-3 wax is Cargill’s most popular wax blend for all types of container candles.

MELTING AND POURING

Pouring temperatures should be reasonably high (60-80°C), depending on the geometry and temperature of the container, ambient temperature, as follows:

Ambient Temperature Pouring Temperature
15 – 21°C 76 – 82°C
21 – 27°C 71 – 76°C
27 – 32°C 63 – 68°C

Temporary high temperatures (up to 85°C) have no adverse effects as long as the wax is cooled back down quickly. Higher temperatures may cause discolouration of the wax. Allow the wax to cool to the desired pouring temperature, add fragrance at approximately 70°C and stir thoroughly for a minimum of 2 minutes. Stir the wax while it melts/cools. Avoid using containers made of copper and zinc, as this can accelerate discolouration. Stainless steel is the ideal material. A digital thermometer is recommended and is a safer choice than the traditional mercury-in-glass type.

Pouring temperatures may vary depending on the type and size of the container/mould, the fragrance and colourant used, and the effects the candle maker wishes to achieve. Better adhesion to containers can be achieved by pouring at a temperature close to the melting point (approximately 50-60°C). Fragrance should be added and mixed immediately before pouring, wherever possible. If you experience difficulties with the pouring temperature, try a lower or higher temperature in increments of 5-10°C. Consider pouring into pre-warmed moulds for better adhesion to glass containers.

WICKS
Pre-waxed wicks tend to work best in C3, particularly FB and ECO wicks, but wooden wicks can also be used and will need to be pre-waxed.

CONTAINERS/MOULDS
Containers/moulds must be clean and free of contaminants; at least at room temperature, although pre-warming containers/moulds to approx. 45-50°C can be beneficial.

As always, a warm ambient temperature (20-25°C), pre-warmed containers and avoiding rapid temperature changes during cooling will reduce the likelihood of frosting/crystallisation/deformation.

COLOURANT
You can use solid colourant, Bekro dye flakes for wicked candles and/or natural Mica powder colourant for decorative candles or wax melts.

FRAGRANCE
The wax will hold a maximum of 8% of most fragrances; 6-8% is recommended, but in some cases, depending on preference, up to 10% can be added.

During our tests we observed that this wax delivers a very good cold and hot throw, and the wax surface is quite even between candle lightings. After pouring, if the candle wax surface is uneven, it can be fixed with a heat gun held above the candle and heated until the wax melts slightly, or by doing a second pour if it is a thin layer of wax.
