KeraSoy Pillar is a 100% natural soy wax from Kerax, produced in the UK.

Soy wax is highly sought after and appeals to a wide range of candle makers and consumers. KeraSoy Pillar is perfect for molded candles such as pillars, wax melts, votives, tarts, and decorative candles, as it is designed to contract slightly for easy mold release.

KeraSoy Pillar is a flake-form wax — a blend of mostly soy wax and other natural waxes — that requires no additives. Very easy to use, making it ideal for beginners.

As a natural product derived from renewable resources like soy wax, each batch may vary slightly in its off-white shade.

DESCRIPTION:

KeraSoy Pillar is a blend specially developed for producing molded candles. It is suitable for mixing with oil-soluble fragrances and dyes. The KeraSoy Pillar blend is biodegradable and vegan. No animal products are used, and no animal testing is carried out during production.

Due to the prevalence of genetically modified soy on the market, we cannot guarantee fully GMO-free sources, but we aim to source GMO-free whenever possible.

KeraSoy Pillar requires no additives other than fragrance and color. Old or partial candles can be remelted and the wax reused, but it is advisable not to heat the wax above 85°C or keep it at high temperatures for extended periods. Store wax in a cool, dry place away from direct heat, sunlight, and moisture.

PROPERTIES:

Melting point: 57–63°C

Viscosity at 100°C: 7–10

MOULDS:
Moulds should be clean and free of contaminants. They should be at least room temperature, though preheating to around 45–50°C can be beneficial.

COLORANT:
We recommend Bekro dye flakes. Most types of dyes work with KeraSoy Pillar — flakes, powder, liquid, chips, blocks, etc. For dye flakes, heat wax to 75–80°C, add the dye, and stir until dissolved. Powder dyes can be dissolved in fragrance before adding to the melted wax; ensure complete dissolution before use. For powder-in-fragrance dyes, liquid dyes, or color blocks, heat wax to 70°C. To make colors deeper or “richer,” add a small amount of black dye to the chosen color.

FRAGRANCE OIL:
KeraSoy Pillar is designed for fragrance loads between 5–10%. We recommend fragrance oils formulated specifically for natural waxes. The size and depth of the melt pool greatly affect scent throw, so proper absorption is essential. Some fragrances may react poorly with the wax, causing undesirable surface finishes or poor flame quality — this can happen with oils not suited for natural waxes.

WICKS:
Natural waxes generally require larger wicks than traditional paraffin. Fragrance, color, and candle design greatly impact wick choice. Too large a wick can cause sooting, fast burn times, and “gutters” (wax running down the side). Too small a wick can cause tunneling and small flames. Keep wicks trimmed to 5 mm. If the flame is weak or unstable, try another wick type. Always conduct test burns after allowing candles to cure for 48 hours. We recommend ECO or TCR wicks.

MELTING:
Short-term high temperatures (up to 85°C) do not cause damage as long as the wax is cooled quickly. Higher temperatures may cause discoloration. Allow wax to cool to the desired pouring temperature, add fragrance, and stir thoroughly. Stir while melting to ensure even consistency. Avoid molds containing copper or zinc, as these can accelerate discoloration. Stainless steel is ideal, though mild steel is acceptable. Digital thermometers are safer and more accurate than traditional mercury-in-glass types.

POURING:
Pouring temperatures may vary depending on mold type and size, fragrance, dye, and desired finish. Better mold release can often be achieved by pouring at 55–65°C, but this depends on candle size and shape. Fragrance should be added and mixed immediately before pouring when possible. If you have trouble with pouring temperatures, adjust in 5–10°C increments. Preheating molds can improve release properties.

TWO-POUR METHOD:
KeraSoy Pillar is designed for single-pour use; however, large molds may require a top-up to achieve the best finish. Use a small amount of wax at a slightly higher temperature than the first pour before the candle has fully cooled (pouring after complete cooling may reduce adhesion to the wax).

COOLING:
Cool candles undisturbed at room temperature (~25°C). Allow candles to cure for 48 hours before test burning.

TESTING:
Trim the wick. Test burn to check melt pool diameter after curing for 48 hours. “Mushrooming” occurs when carbon and/or other substances build up on the wick tip, interfering with combustion. This can cause sooting and unpleasant odors. Test different wicks until you achieve the desired melt pool diameter and a clean, steady flame.

Every combination of size, wax, colorant, fragrance, and wick must be tested for burn quality!
